Sun Fook Kong Wins the Best Site Condition Award and Contractors’ Supervisor Safety Award in MTR West Island Line Projectarrow

(Hong Kong, 5 March 2012) The MTR Corporation presented the 2011 bi-annual Quality, Safety and Environmental Awards to recognize the outstanding performance of its contractors working on the railway projects. Sun Fook Kong has won two awards at the award scheme for the 2nd half of year 2011, these including the Best Site Condition Award for the “West Island Line Contract No. 701 – Modification of Sheung Wan Station”, and Winner of the Contractor’s Supervisor Safety Award for Mr. Lee Tun Siu, General Foreman of Sun Fook Kong.

Sun Fook Kong believes that maintenance of good site condition is one of the key factors to enhance work efficiency. To achieve this, we keep improving site management and monitoring all site activities including handling and storage of material and substances, electricity, use of machinery and condition of tools. Sun Fook Kong also ensures high standard of its site cleanliness and safety performance through setting up fire preventive measures and providing comprehensive first aid, sanitary and welfare facilities to all sites.

Being the winner of the Contractor’s Supervisor Safety Award, Mr. Lee Tun Siu has over 20 years’ experiences in the construction industry. His daily works involves scheduling work and delivery of materials to job sites, supervision and arrangement of site labours. Based on his experience in safety management, Mr. Lee said, “To manage the sites effectively, we should tightly monitor and control all aspects of the project and highly aware of the risks including fall of person and falling object; To enhance the safety awareness of workers, we should provide sufficient safety trainings and keeps reminding them to work in a safe and proper way.” Being one of the communication channels, Mr. Lee understands the importance of maintaining a cooperative relationship between Sun Fook Kong and its customer. Thus, he has frequently collected opinions from the MTR Project Team and the station workers. On the other hands, he would inform related parties immediately when there is any potential risk occurred in the station.

Sun Fook Kong commenced the “MTR West Island Line Contract No. 701 – Modification of Sheung Wan Station” in April, 2010. To transform the Sheung Wan Station from a terminus to an intermediate station, the scope of work includes installation of new rail tracks and overhead power lines, new passenger lifts, enlargement of the East Concourse and improvement works to the station facilities. Accept the Best Site Condition Award and Contractor’s Supervisor Safety Award, it had won the Gold Environmental Award, Silver Safety Award and Lowest Reportable Accident Frequency Rate Award in the earlier period of 2011.

As a responsible contractor, Sun Fook Kong has been emphasizing its safety and environmental protection, so that high project efficiency and quality can be achieved.
