(Hong Kong, 12 Sep 2014) Sun Fook Kong Summer Internship Programme 2014 has been commenced in July 2014, providing a chance for youngsters to gain working experience and knowledge about construction industry. This year, the interns came from universities in Hong Kong, United Kingdom and United States, who had undergone a total of eight weeks training under the guidance of instructors.
 
The aim of Sun Fook Kong Summer Internship Programme is to provide opportunities for a selectedgroup of outstanding students who are interested in joining the construction field to understand the construction industry through hands-on experience.
 
To begin the Programme, the interns went through a comprehensive induction on 8 July. Through the sharing on working experience and career path from the senior staffs, they were able to acquire a better understanding on Sun Fook Kong’s business and structure, as well as some basic knowledge in the construction field, including safety, environmental protection, programme planning, building services and structural steel.
 
Interns were then acquired to work in different departments or site offices. They were assisted theassigned mentors to enable them to understand their jobs better. During the internship period, they have underwent a wide range of trainings as a means of exploring their own talents.
 
All interns were delighted and enjoyed the work experience in Sun Fook Kong. It was the second year for Mr. Fung Kai Hang, an Architecture student of Chu Hai College of Higher Education, to join the Programme; he said, “Last year, I was involved in the project planning process of a project; this year, I’d like to learn more about project coordination during the construction period. I join the Programme again as it provides me with the marvelous chance to look into different construction stages, as well as to getinvolved in the construction of a large-scale infrastructure project in Hong Kong.”
 
Besides, many interns commented that the Programme is valuable in inspiring to their future careerdevelopment. Ms. Ho Sin Yiu Yoyo, who is currently studying BBA Law in Hong Kong University, said “I could learn via handling real cases during the training working in Sun Fook Kong, and even have a chance to join a study trip to Mainland China. Moreover, thanks to the harmonious working atmosphere and colleague’s advices, I am able to handle the jobs in a short period of time.”
 
Another intern, Mr. Liu Wai Lun, an Economics student at the University of Leicester expressed that “The work here is quite different from what I have been before. During this internship programme, I gain solid work experience in both Administration and Marketing Departments, and therefore I could understand more about a company’s structure and management proess. Besides, I have learnt the importance of teamwork and in addition strengthened my communication skills through organizing different events.”
 
Sun Fook Kong has always been committed to training the talents of the future. We will continue to organize the Summer Internship Programme, in order to nurture the future generation and to attract more young people to join the construction industry.
