Sun Fook Kong is Granted the Construction Industry Safety Award Scheme 2013 / 2014 Gold Award of Safety Teamarrow
(Hong Kong, 17 March 2014) In recognition of its teamwork and safety management for the “ Harbour Area Treatment Scheme Stage 2A - Upgrading Works at Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works - Main Pumping Station, Sedimentation Tanks and Ancillary Facilities” project, Sun Fook Kong has been granted the “Gold Prize in the category of Safety Team” of the Construction Industry Safety Award Scheme 2013 / 2014.
 
The Construction Industry Safety Award Scheme is organized by the Hong Kong Labour Department in collaboration with more than 10 co-organizers including the Occupational Safety and Health Council, the Development Bureau, the Hong Kong Housing Authority and the Construction Industry Council. Mr. Donald Tong Chi Keung, JP, Commissioner for Labour, said during the opening speech, “The Construction Industry Safety Award Scheme aims to award contractors, site personnel and workers in recognition of their good occupational safety and health performance, as well as to enhance safety awareness in construction industry and to foster a positive safety culture.”
 
The Construction Industry Safety Award Scheme is organized by the Hong Kong Labour Department in collaboration with 12 co-organizers including the Occupational Safety and Health Council, the Development Bureau, the Hong Kong Housing Authority and the Construction Industry Council to foster a safety culture in the construction sector and to enhance safety awareness among managerial levels and frontline workers. “To prevent accidents, the management should consider health and safety factors in project planning, management and work procedure. Besides, workers should use PPEs in a proper way and remain sensitive to ensure their safety,” said Mr. Cheuk Wing Hing, JP, Commissioner for Labour, during the opening speech.
 
The competition assessment for safety teams had been conducted in two phases. In the preliminary assessment, Occupational Safety Officers of the Labour Department had carried out physical site assessment to evaluate its performance on implementation of safety measures and safety management system. Then, an interview had been conducted in final assessment to evaluate the safety and health awareness of safety teams. 

This year, there were total 156 safety teams participated in the competition. Finally, the safety team of “ Harbour Area Treatment Scheme Stage 2A - Upgrading Works at Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works - Main Pumping Station, Sedimentation Tanks and Ancillary Facilities” project was selected to be the winner of the Gold Award, based on the site safety supervision, safety training and promotion, protection of workers’ health and site cleanliness.
 
In future, Sun Fook Kong will continue to foster a good safety culture, set a good example for the industry and work together with the government and all construction companies to improve the occupational safety and health performance.
